Prepare for September’s Start of School
Want your child to have a relaxing and fun, yet constructive summer that prepares them for the upcoming school year? You and your children are welcome to come be a part of Summer Lab at The Arcade at Cyberport. From August 8-9 and August 15-16, Summer Lab opens the portal to the fascinating realm of science. The programme “Edison’s Creative Academy” will offer various scientific experiments that follow in the principles of Thomas Alva Edison’s theory of electricity, from using a small battery to generate wind, to powering a dragonfly with renewable energy. The “Little Inventor Lab”, meanwhile, encourages children to participate in experiments while providing fun activities such as a virtual reality experience and a remote controlled car race. Children will have a grand time soaking up science knowledge and learning the spirit of experimentation.
In August, the Arcade at Cyberport will also launch its Summer Sale promotion, offering discounts up to 50% off on children’s products, from retailers such as Indigo Kids, Indigo Living, JMStyle Furniture & Gallery and Kokoon for Kids, among others. It’s the perfect opportunity to spice up your child’s room ahead of the upcoming school year.
Nurturing Children’s Curiosities with “Edison’s Creative Academy” and “Little Inventor Lab”
Creativity needs to be nurtured and encouraged, and it is with this goal in mind that “Edison’s Creative Academy” was created. Teaming up with local science minds, Dr. Jimmy K.Y. Wong, director of Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association, has created a workshop that aims to teach children the wonders of science in a practical, fun manner. One of the highlights is the battery workshop, which explores Thomas Alva Edison’s theory of electricity and reveals the secrets behind his electric generator. Aside from generating electricity, Edison’s other grand invention in the field is the nickel-iron battery, a rechargeable battery that proved to be a breakthrough in renewable energy. To commemorate that momentous achievement, we’ve developed the Electric Dragonfly workshop, which gives children a better understanding of the marvels behind the science. Furthermore, the “Little Inventor Lab” offers more than 10 intriguing experiments, including “Can-tumbler”, “Parachute Soap Bubbles”, “Kinegram Animation Club” and “Small to Big”, along with others. Furthermore, the “Scientific Breakthrough Demo” invites children and adults to participate in an interactive experiment. This summer, come to The Arcade at Cyberport and explore the vast world of technology and science.
Experience Virtual Reality And Control Remote Race Cars With Special Apps
Our smartphones and tablets today can do so much. In addition to surf the web and play games, it can even create virtual reality or control a toy car – provided it has the right apps. At “Speed Track”, children can learn how to control a 1:43 Alfa Romeo Mini-Car via their smartphones, and then participate in a friendly race down the tracks. Later, children can build their own virtual reality headset at “Google Cardboard Virtual Reality Workshop”. With virtual reality, whether it’s flying through the skies or roaming a jungle, the adventure will come to life.
